travels all over the world, illustrated with photographs documenting
indigenous peoples, landscapes, flora and fauna. The

newspapers, most of them at least 150 years old. Hidden within their pages
he has found an archive of remarkable stories, sad, funny, revealing,
informative; but always entertaining.
Tonight, Pip will take us into the past to catch a

Tonight she will demonstrate for us the art of crafting sugar flowers to
adorn cakes for any occasion.
Margaret will be donating one of her cake decorations for the raffle, so

Folklore and fairytales were fictional stories passed on by word of
mouth. Based on traditions of the time, sometimes involving a
far-fetched sequence of events, they often contained a moral lesson.
This evening Robin Herne, noted storyteller, lecturer and tutor, will
take us to a land far, far away...

'Twas on a Thursday evening, the Speaker came to call...
Joyce Kimber trained as an opera singer, and tonight she will entertain
us with 'Satire in Song'. Her talk includes comic song-writers from
Gilbert and Sullivan to Flanders and Swann and is illustrated with original
recordings.

Development of Surnames' with Derek Palgrave

Surnames derive from many sources such as father (Peter-son), locality
(Hill), occupation (Cooper) or nickname (Small).
Our speaker this evening, Derek Palgrave, developed an interest in genealogy
and heraldry at an early age and is now the vice-president of the Federation
of Family History Societies. This evening his fascinating talk will
illustrate the origin and development of surnames through the ages.
