Welcome to Quills Ladies Group

Quills was formed in September 1996 to encourage women in Suffolk to get together on a regular basis to socialise, share their experiences and have fun. Women of all ages and backgrounds are welcome; our membership includes working women, mums and retirees. There should be something in our programme of speakers and events to appeal to everyone.

Our monthly club nights are held at Seckford Hall near Woodbridge, usually on the second Thursday of the month.  The focus of the evening is our guest speaker.  We have heard from individuals with interesting vocations including a weatherman, magistrate, pearly king, competitor in the BT Global Challenge, funeral director and mass caterer, and we have been informed and entertained on a wide variety of topics including shiatsu massage, flower arranging, mental health, past life regression and interior design.  We have even tried our hand at painting pottery.

In addition to the Quills club nights, we also organise charity fundraising events and social occasions. These have included a James Bond themed fashion show, quiz nights, garden parties and outings to the theatre and horse races. All funds raised at charity events are presented to the Club's nominated charity during club night.

In 2011 we are again supporting Suffolk Family Carers.  A Family Carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.  Suffolk Family Carers provide advice and assitance to Family Carers.  They offer support and allow a carer an opportunity to take a break from the caring role, improving both health and well-being of the individual.  In 2008/9 we raised £2850 for this worthy local charity.

At the AGM in 2010 the club voted to donate surplus funds for the year to the EACH Treehouse Appeal.  The charity 'East Anglia's Children's Hospices' support families and care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across East Anglia.  They provide care and support wherever the family wishes - in families' own homes, in hospital or at one of their three hospices.  The Treehouse Appeal aims to build and equip a new children’s hospice in Ipswich.  A cheque for £550 will be presented to EACH during an upcoming club night.

In 2007 we supported Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.  Those of you who came along to our club night with Trevor and Jean Larkin a few years ago will have had a first hand demonstration of how much a hearing dog can contribute to the standard of living of a deaf person.  We are pleased to announce that we were able to donate £5,000 to the charity at the end of 2007, enough to sponsor our hearing dog, 'Foggy', through his working life.
