August 2008 - Summer Charity Event - Casino Fun Night

We decided to try something a little different for our Summer Charity Fundraiser this year - a Casino Fun Night held in the Lakeside Suite at Seckford Hall.  Casino-goers tried their hand at favorites such as roulette and blackjack - the Mega Club croupiers showed everyone the ropes, so no experience was necessary.  The highest rollers received champagne prizes.

£350 was raised for 'Suffolk Family Carers', a local charity supporting carers who provide help for loved ones unable to manage without assistance.  This takes our total raised for this year's nominated charity to over £1100.

2007 AGM - Selection of Committee and Nominated Charity

The 2007 AGM was on 8th November, before our Alpaca speaker.  The Chair gave a brief summary of the year and the Treasurer presented the club financial statement.  Members then had the chance to select the committee and charity for the coming year.  The new committee is listed on the committee web page, thank you to them for giving up some of their free time to ensure the smooth running of our club.  This year's nominated charity was voted as Suffolk Family Carers.

We would like to thank committe members standing down: Anita Brooks, our fantastic Chair of several years, and Carole Day who has for a number of years looked after event publicity.  They have both contributed to the success of our club and will be sorely missed.

2007 Nominated Charity - Hearing Dogs for Deaf People - £5000 raised

I am pleased to announce that this year we have raised £3300 for our nominated charity, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.  Our target was £5000, the amount required to sponsor a dog throughout its working life, so it was agreed at the AGM that Quills would donate a further £1700 from club funds to top that up.  We have now heard that we have been able to sponsor 'Foggy'.

Our first fundraising event was the June Quiz, which raised £400.  The Quiz night on 2nd November saw another £400 added to this year's total.  Thanks go to Anita Brooks for hosting the evenings and providing all the questions and the committee and helpers for organising the evening, providing cakes and raffle prizes, etc.

Our main event of the summer was the Barn Dance.  The hall was packed to the rafters for this September Harvest Supper celebration which raised £500.  Thanks go to Pauline Hearn and her team for organising an excellent event.

Pauline has also been busy using her artistic talents to further the fundraising drive.  Her beautiful handmade Christmas cards have been very popular and have raised £200, and her skill with a needle led to a donation of £150 when Pauline produced a tapestry for a publishing company in double-quick time.

A collection outside the Ipswich Town football ground before and after the match raised nearly £200 - thank you to all the collectors involved.

Thanks to all of you who have supported or donated prizes to our club night raffles.  The total raised from club nights, including donations from speakers on the sale of goods during the evening, was in the region of £350.

Finally we would like to offer a big thank you to Shaun Whymark who has passed to us the £1080 he has raised for Hearing Dogs to add to our total.
